FORMER TYRONE DEFENDER Cathal McCarron will make his debut for the London senior footballers today when they face Wicklow in Aughrim.
McCarron lined out for Mickey Harte’s Tyrone side last summer and played in the All-Ireland semi-final loss to Mayo last August.
He hit the headines last October when it emerged he was the latest high-profile inter-county player to struggle with a gambling addiction.
McCarron moved to Britain last autumn and the Dromore club man joined London outfit Round Towers. After lining out for his new club in championship action last weekend, he was eligible for Paul Coggins London senior side and has been named at left half-back for today’s Allianz Division 4 football league opener.
London have five survivors from the team that started last July’s All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Cavan in Philip Butler, Stephen Curran, Seamus Hannon, Shane Mulligan and Lorcan Mulvey while Mark Gottsche is a welcome return to midfield after missing out through injury worries last year.
